1. 인생이란 본래 공평치 않다.
- 그런 현실에 대하여 불평할 생각 말고 받아들여라.
2. 세상은 너 자신이 어떻게 생각하든 개의치 않는다.
- 세상은 너 스스로 만족한다고 느끼기 전에 네가 무엇인가를 성취해 보여 주기를 기다리고 있다.
3. 대학 교육을 받지 않고도 연봉 4만 달러를 받으리라고는 상상도 하지 말라.
4. 학교 선생님이 까다로운가?
- 사회에 나가 직장 상사의 진짜 까다로운 맛을 한번 느껴 봐라.
5. 햄버거 가게에서 일하는 것을 수치스럽게 생각하지 말라.
- 너의 할아버지는 그 일을 기회라고 생각하였다.
6. 네 인생을 스스로 망치고 있으면서 부모를 탓하지 말라.
- 불평을 일삼지 말고 잘못한 것에서 교훈을 얻어라.
7. 학교는 승자와 패자를 뚜렷이 가리지 않을지 모른다.
- 어떤 학교는 낙제 제도를 아예 없애고 쉽게 가르친다.
그러나 명심하라. 사회 현실은 이와 다르다.
8. 인생은 학기가 구분되어 있지 않고 여름 방학이란 아예 없다.
- 너 스스로 알아서 하지 않으면 직장에서는 누구도 가르쳐 주지 않는다.
9. TV는 현실이 아니다.
- 현실에서는 커피를 마셨으면 일을 시작하는 것이 옳다.
10. 공부밖에 할 줄 모르는 '바보'한테 잘 보여라.
- 사회에 나가 그 '바보' 밑에서 일하게 될지도 모른다.

RULE 1 Life is not fair - get used to it.
RULE 2 The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
RULE 3 You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice president with a car phone, until you earn both.
RULE 4 If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.
RULE 5 Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping - they called it opportunity.
RULE 6 If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
RULE 7 Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills,
cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation,
try delousing the closet in your own room.
RULE 8 Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades
and they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
RULE 9 Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself.
Do that on your own time.
RULE 10 Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
RULE 11 Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
